Assessment
Users can complete the Amsterdam Cognition Scan completely unmonitored. Anyone with access to a computer with an internet connection can do the test from home without supervision. Our only requirement is that users have basic computer skills (e.g., being able to send an email without any help). How is this made possible?
General instructions
The test session starts with a general instruction video. In this video, a test instructor explains users what to expect from the tests (regarding duration and general content) and how to best prepare for the assessment.
Test instructions
Every neuropsychological test is preceded by a test instruction video, consisting of screen captures of the tests and a voice-over providing further instructions.
Practice with feedback
To make sure that users are ready to proceed with the actual test, the instruction videos are followed by a practice session with dynamic feedback on performance.
Computer experience
The ACS starts with computer skill practice tasks for users to become familiar with clicking, typing, and dragging.
In addition, a self-report question on computer use is included which can be used to adjust test results for computer experience.
Fixed breaks
Two animation videos on a popular psychological topic are incorporated in the battery to serve as fixed, standardized breaks.
Troubleshooting
Users are encouraged to complete the entire test battery in one session, but in case of an unavoidable interruption, the battery automatically resumes testing at the start of the last incomplete element when a user returns.
During all elements of the test battery, users can use the contact button at the bottom of the screen to report problems or peculiarities.
To provide users the possibility to report any irregularities during test completion or to give us feedback on the tests, a feedback form is placed at the end of the test battery.
Computer requirements
Only a computer or laptop with a sound system and an internet connection is required to complete the ACS. The sound system is verified with a sound check.
The tests are programmed to run on all major internet browsers and on all common operating systems. No software installations or downloads are required. Client-side programming enables reliable collection of response-time data, independent of internet speed or bandwidth.
In the case of repeated measurements, users are encouraged to use the same computer device for all measurements in order to avoid technical biases.
Note that the test battery cannot be completed on a mobile phone or tablet.
